More Than a Signature More Than Us: A Vision from God, a Work for All Pastor Kile Baker November 9, 2025 Nehemiah 9 Summary: After confessing their sins, the people looked back on generations of disobedience and their half-hearted devotion— and still saw a God who never stopped forgiving, providing, and rescuing. In response to that overwhelming grace, they came to a defining moment: “The God who makes us whole deserves more than half our hearts.” So they put their commitment in writing, signed their names, and publicly declared their faith and commitment—because when they remembered how faithful God had been, the only right response was their full commitment. Nehemiah 9:38 In view of all this, we are making a binding agreement in writing on a sealed document containing the names of our leaders, Levites, and priests. Nehemiah 10:28-39 The rest of the people — the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, and temple servants, along with their wives, sons, and daughters, everyone who is able to understand and who has separated themselves from the surrounding peoples to obey the law of God — 29 join with their noble brothers and commit themselves with a sworn oath to follow the law of God given through God’s servant Moses and to obey carefully all the commands, ordinances, and statutes of the Lord our Lord. Holiness - We won’t mix God’s ways with the world’s ways. (10:30) Sabbath - “We’ll rest like we trust Him.” (10:31) Worship - “We’ll fund what fuels our faith.” (10:32-33) Participation - “We’ll all carry a part of the load.” (10:34) Portion - “We’ll give our first and our best, not our last and least.” (10:35-38) Commitment - “We will not neglect the house of our God.” (10:39) Will you remember how faithful God has been to you, and give your full commitment to Him? More Than Us: Commitment flows not from pressure, but from God’s provision.
