Palm Sunday: Greater Than Expected Greater Kile Baker April 13th, 2025 Summary of Hebrews: Whatever you think of Jesus, He’s greater. Matthew 21:7-11 They brought the donkey and the colt; then they laid their clothes on them, and he sat on them. 8 A very large crowd spread their clothes on the road; others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road. 9 Then the crowds who went ahead of him and those who followed shouted: 'Hosanna' to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 'Hosanna' in the highest heaven! 10 When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in an uproar, saying, “Who is this? ” 11 The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.” What did people expect from Jesus? The crowds expected Jesus to be a political and militaristic king that would overthrow Roman rule. The religious leaders expected Jesus to follow the Law and their traditions. The poor and sick expected Jesus to bring justice and physical healing. The disciples of Jesus expected immediate victory and a long-term rule. Hebrews 11:1-3 Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. 2 For by this our ancestors were approved. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible The Heroes of Faith - Hebrews 11:4-38 Hebrews 11:39-40 All these were approved through their faith, but they did not receive what was promised, 40 since God had provided something better for us, so that they would not be made perfect without us. Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, 2 keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Expectations vs. Hope: Four Key Lessons from the Triumphal Entry Jesus didn’t come to resolve human conflict, He came to give Godly peace. Our faith in what God can do is always too small, and our gratitude for what He does will never be big enough. Any expectations you have of God beyond what He has promised will keep you from placing all of your hope in Him. Greater than expected: Jesus will never meet anyone’s expectations, but He does exceed all of our hopes. Next Week: Greater Than Life
