Summer Break - Leave Everything Pastor Roy Conover July 14th, 2024 Series thesis: How to rest from the daily grind without drifting from God. Key Question: Do you have fellowship with God, or do you have fellowship with others about God? Contemplation makes us think of, dwell on, wrestle with, and find God through the scriptures. Prayer is our active submission to His will and His ways. Key Verse: Psalm 1:1-2 How happy is the one who does not walk in the advice of the wicked or stand in the pathway with sinners or sit in the company of mockers! Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. Contemplating God is necessary to understand Him and praying to God is necessary to have relationship with Him. Contemplation is not about what we think, but dwelling on who God is Prayer is not about getting what we want, but what we get to give. Philippians 4:4-5 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your graciousness[b] be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Philippians 4:6-7 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:8-9 Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things. Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. Open Mind, Open Heart by Thomas Keating - "Prayer is not asking for what you think you want, but asking to be changed in ways you can't imagine." “...Our prayer is a movement toward surrender." Communion Luke 22:19-20 And he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way he also took the cup after supper and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. Next Steps: 1. Daily meditation.
