Jesus: The Guide to Our Brief Journey

 • Series: The Bible in a Year

Jesus: The guide to our brief journey 90 days with Jesus Pastor Kile Baker March 17th, 2024 Matthew 3:13-17 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. But John tried to stop him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?” Jesus answered him, “Allow it for now, because this is the way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John allowed him to be baptized. When Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.” Matthew 28:18-20 “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Romans 6:1-10 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. Your faith is personal but it can never be private. Baptism quick facts: Baptism is not required for salvation, it is evidence of salvation. Baptism does require understanding, and must be a decision that is yours. Baptism does not wash you clean, it shows that Jesus has made you clean. Baptism is a deeply personal decision, and a public display of devotion. Why you should get baptized or re-baptized Jesus got baptized, so there is no reason you shouldn’t! (Mt 3:13-17) Jesus commands Christ followers to get baptized. (Mt 28:19) You want to take your personal faith public. (Mt 10:32-33) You want to commit to Christ’s church. (Acts 2:41) You’ve heard the Gospel, received Jesus as your Lord and savior, and responded in repentance. (Acts 2:38)
